Biography of Olivier Bollag

Artist Statement:

My artistic journey began with the delicate art of origami, where I discovered a fascination for precision and the vibrant world of colors. As a professional watchmaker, this attention to detail heavily influenced my artistic path. However, it was the lack of emotional expression on people's faces that drove me to capture and convey the elusive "happy vibe" that seemed to be missing.

My central theme and greatest motivation as an artist are to spread joy and create happiness. This goal encompasses multiple levels of engagement, including sharing my work with those in need.

By lending my art to universities and showcasing it to students struggling with mental illness or identity issues, I aim to enhance their creativity and serve as a safeguard for their well-being.

I tap into the psychology of perception, by using vibrant colors, triggering creativity and a sense of uniqueness. Art possesses the incredible power to stimulate the brain by simply gazing upon an object. I strive to amplify this effect by channelling a process towards happiness and joy through my work.

In pursuit of precision, I transitioned from traditional handcrafting methods to utilizing vector-based programs like Illustrator. This shift allowed me to achieve a level of perfection that aligns with my artistic vision. New developments are in the process by testing different materials that keep the precision, high quality and colorfulness.

My inspiration stems from observing and analyzing people and their behaviors. Everyone, influenced by their emotions, can transform their face into an array of different characters. In my art, I seek to capture and immortalize one emotion or a combination of multiple emotions within a meticulously analyzed face. The universal face I aim to create serves as a testament to our shared human experiences within society.

I draw inspiration from the simplicity embodied in human faces and daily objects, and I have incorporated the precision I gained from my experience as a watchmaker. Today, there is a profound lack of positivity and joy; many young people face daily struggles and challenges. Through my art, I strive to break the stigma surrounding mental health and highlight the importance of seeking treatment. I tackle topics that I find extremely pertinent in today's world.

My purpose as an artist is to ignite happiness and promote well-being. By infusing my work with precision, vibrant colors, and thoughtful observations of human nature, I hope to create a visual language that resonates with viewers, reminding them of the inherent joy that exists within all of us.
